The heat is sweltering here in the southern tip of Quebec. While the hubby’s on vacation, I’m doing shorter writing days (we are ‘staycationing’ with the kids). The latest manuscript is nonetheless shaping up. Working title: Glass Houses. It’s an urban fantasy, somewhere between young and anyone adult, and frankly, I’m having a ball with it.
The thing I love so much about writing is that moment where you realize you’ve hit emotional gold — where the characters just click, the story touches you (even though you’re the author), and you start having faith in your plot. I’ve been writing at record speed, so I hope to have something to shop to my agent before the end of summer.
Meanwhile, I’m sorry to report that Starling’s Weave (full-on romantasy) has been delayed by the press. I’m awaiting a new press date from Entangled Teen, although I hear January 2025 is likely. I’ll keep everyone up to date as I get new information. Save for the copy edits, the book is done, so at least it’s on the way. Traditional publishing tends to be a slow process requiring an infinite amount of patience.
By the by, if you happen to be a bookstagrammer / book reviewer who likes reading YA/fantasy/romance and would like to join the ARC team (advance reader copy, in which you receive a free, advance copy of the book in exchange for an honest review) for Starling’s Weave, feel free to DM me via a comment with your name, email address and your social media handles (don’t worry- your comment and information will not be posted!!) and I’ll gladly add you to my personal and/or my publisher’s growing list.
On a side tangent, I’ve been considering offering writing courses again. It’s been many years since I last taught college-level creative writing, and I’m kind of excited at the idea of sharing my hard-earned knowledge with new generations of writers. If something gets off the ground, I will definitely share the news! In the meantime, if you know someone who might like to take a course on writing a fiction novel, let me know and/or share this post.
