I’m delighted to announce that I’ll have another book dropping soon! Starling’s Weave is set to receive its release date soon, so stay tuned for news.
This is a new book set within in a new, watery world. Falling under the YA fantasy genre, the plot revolves around Nieve Septile. Ostracized from her secretive, magic-user community, Nieve is alone in the world — until she crosses paths with two women (and a pirate) and finds her path changed completely.
The book is coming out with Entangled Teen, and I’m working with a new editor at Entangled on this one. I’m excited to see her thoughts on the novel.
Upcoming Podcast Appearance
Last Friday I was interviewed by Lauren Ilbury for the Roma Reads podcast. This England-based podcast focuses on writers — in particular, the various challenges they face in their personal publication journey.
For this episode, Lauren and I chatted about the difficulties of being a Canadian writer published by an American press. We also talked about some of the difficulties inherent in publishing a series spin off that appeals to readers who haven’t yet experienced the first series. (HINT: it ain’t easy!)
One interesting facet of the conversation turned on the idea of success. As in: how do you gauge your success or failure as a writer? I’ll let you ponder that over the next few weeks as I await the air date for the episode. It will appear on the Roma Reads YouTube channel as well as in straight podcast format. Don’t worry — as soon as I have an air date and links, I’ll publish them here!
Goals?
In the meantime: back to that idea of success. Is it as simple as beating your goal (say, writing 1,000 words a day)? Securing an agent? Publishing a book? Hitting the NYT bestsellers list? (Personally, that one is high on my list).
